Laying step tiles
1 - Preparing and Bonding the Surfaces
a - Make sure the substrate is perfectly flat and even and that it is completely free from dust, grease etc.
b - Spread the adhesive on the tread of the base step with a notched trowel and on the underside of the tile with the flat part of the trowel (the floating and buttering method). Both surfaces must be completely covered in adhesive.
Professional adhesives that suit the specific circumstances are recommended, taking into account the properties of the substrate and the characteristics of the chosen type of ceramic tile. The drying times specified by the manufacturer must be observed.
c - Leave a tile joint with a width of between 2 and 20 mm.
2 - The Installation Process
Lay the step tile so that it juts out slightly over the end of the step. We recommend that it should jut out between 5 to 15 mm.
On stairs, begin laying the tiles from the top downwards.
3 - Support for the Step Tile
The edge of the step tile must have an under-surface support, as shown in the above diagram.
